Privacy Policy

Who we are

This privacy policy explains how Riftide Oy ("Riftide", "we", "us") handles personal data in connection with this website. We are the controller of that data.

We have not appointed a data protection officer, as we are not required to. Data protection questions go to the email address above.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies of its own. It uses no analytics, no advertising or tracking pixels, no embedded video players and no third-party fonts. Nothing our own code runs stores or reads anything in your browser.

The site is served through Cloudflare, which delivers it and protects it from attacks and malicious traffic. Depending on which protections are active, Cloudflare may place short-lived security cookies on your device:

Cloudflare classifies these as strictly necessary. They carry no advertising or analytics identifiers, are not used to track you between sites or to build a profile of you, and we cannot read them. Because they are required for the security of the service you asked for, they fall within the exemption in the ePrivacy rules and do not require consent, which is why this site shows no cookie banner.

Links to Steam, our social media profiles and other external sites are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to those services unless you click through to them, at which point their own privacy policies apply.

What we process, and why

Website visits. This site is served through Cloudflare, Inc. Because Cloudflare sits between you and the site, it processes technical information about every request: your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, and your browser and operating system. This is how the site is delivered and kept secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and protecting it from abuse (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare retains this information only briefly, for security and abuse prevention. We have not enabled any logging or analytics product that would let us keep it, and we do not profile or attempt to identify individual visitors.

Email correspondence. If you email us, we process your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you choose to write. We use this only to reply and to keep track of the conversation. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep correspondence for as long as it remains relevant, and no longer than three years after the exchange ends.

Press and review key list. If you ask to be added to our press list, we store your name, email address and the outlet you write for, so that we can send you announcements and review keys for our games. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by emailing us, and we will remove you promptly. We keep the list until you ask to be removed or until it is no longer in use.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for marketing. Two service providers process data on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to acting on our instructions:

We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

Transfers outside the EEA

Cloudflare is based in the United States, and by default processes request and cookie data in its US data centres, so serving this site involves a transfer of personal data outside the EEA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, and its data processing addendum applies the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses to any transfer not covered by that certification. That addendum forms part of Cloudflare's standard customer terms and is published at cloudflare.com/dpa.

Switzerland, where our email provider is based, has been recognised by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of data protection, so no additional safeguard is required for that transfer.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.

Complaints

If you think we have handled your data incorrectly, we would rather hear from you directly so we can put it right. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Finnish supervisory authority:

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example if we add a newsletter, analytics or other features to the site. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. We recommend checking this page from time to time.
